I am in Negril

I am in Negril

Jamaica has really changed since I have been here. Some changes are for the better and some not so good. I have enjoyed my trip but probable won’t be planning any trips back for a while. I will post some pictures and mo comments later.

Before Our Trip

Before Our Trip

We are headed to Negril, Jamaica for a few days. We are leaving out of Fort Lauderdale and going to Montego Bay with a stopover in Kingston. We are going a tight budget so I have been searching the net for deals. It is summer, their off season so that helps with finding great deals. We are flying Air Jamaica, not my first choice of air lines, but the cheapest way to get there. Note on flying Air Jamaica: the flights go through Kingston, not good, so make sure that the flight doesn’t have a long layover in Kingston. Some of these flights have layovers of several hours for a connecting flight to Montego Bay. As you can see from the map Kingston and Montego Bay are on opposite ends of Jamaica. But the upside of this flight is the flight around the Island is breath taking.
Flying around the island you have the Blue Mountains, famous for the Blue Mountain coffee, rising to 7402 feet from the beautiful blue water below. White pillowing clouds raise from the ocean up pass the mountain tops making for a spectacular view.
We are going strictly tourist. Before I had rented a car but I would not recommend this. The roads are rough, curvy, and with steep grades with vegetation covering the road. To make it more interesting you drive on the left side of the road. If you are driving in city traffic then getting in and out of a round-about while staying on the correct side of the road requires some quick thinking. Then you have rains, the tropics version, you can’t see and the roads flood so badly that you can be washed off the road from the water running from the hills. Do I need to say more, get a driver or take public transportation? Public transportation is cheap and is a memorable experience.
